Anmarie Paul

Executive Director
Anmarie Paul is a nonprofit executive, youth development professional, educational consultant, and restorative circle keeper dedicated to advancing educational equity and creating transformative opportunities for young people. As Executive Director of Behind the Book, she leads strategic growth, fundraising, organizational development, and program innovation for one of New York City's leading literacy organizations.

For more than two decades, Anmarie has designed and led impactful programs that bring together education, the arts, literacy, and community engagement. Her work has included school gardening and nutrition initiatives, anti-violence community arts projects, youth leadership development, and social justice curricula that encourage young people to recognize their own agency, voice, and inner heroism.

Known for her collaborative leadership style and commitment to relationship-centered learning, Anmarie is passionate about helping organizations build cultures that foster curiosity, belonging, and lifelong learning. She believes that literacy is not only a fundamental skill but also a pathway to empowerment, self-expression, and social change.

Anmarie holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Baruch College, a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Wesleyan University, and completed studies in African Diaspora Studies through the School for International Training in Cape Coast, Ghana.
