Joshua Cohen was born in southern New Jersey in 1980. His books include a collection of stories, The Quorum, a novel, Cadenza for the Schneidermann Violin Concerto, and a collaboration with the artist Michael Hafftka, Aleph-Bet: An Alphabet for the Perplexed. Another novel, A Heaven of Others, appears in 2008. Cohen is a writer for The Forward, and lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Rebecca Curtis has a Masters in English from New York University and an MFA in fiction from Syracuse University.  She is the author of Twenty Grand and Other Tales of Love & Money.  (Harpercollins 2007).  Her fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s, Harper’s Bazaar, McSweeney’s, Conjunctions, Open City, N+1 and elsewhere, and her nonfiction has appeared in Jane Magazine.  Her short stories have been performed by New York’s Symphony Space series and Chicago’s “Stories on Stage” series, and have been anthologized in The O’Henry Prize Stories 2007, The Better of McSweeney’s, and What are You Looking at? The First Fat Fiction Anthology.  She is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Foundation award and a Saltonstall grant.  She has taught writing in the MFA programs at St. Mary’s College of California and at the University of Kansas.

Wayne Koestenbaum has published five books of poetry:  Best-Selling Jewish Porn Films, Model Homes, The Milk of Inquiry, Rhapsodies of a Repeat Offender, and Ode to Anna Moffo and Other Poems.  He has also published a novel, Moira Orfei in Aigues-Mortes, and five books of nonfiction:  Andy Warhol, Cleavage, Jackie Under My Skin, The Queen’s Throat (a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist), and Double Talk.  His newest book, Hotel Theory, a hybrid of fiction and nonfiction, was published by Soft Skull Press in summer 2007. He a Distinguished Professor of English at the CUNY Graduate Center, and currently also a Visiting Professor in the painting department of the Yale School of Art.

Behind the Book is a literacy nonprofit working with low-income students in NYC public schools.  Our mission is to excite children and young adults about reading.  Working in the 1st-12th grades, we bring authors and their books into individual classrooms to build literacy skills and a new generation of book readers.
