Join us for an exceptional evening of memoir and fiction on June 14th when award-winning authors Victoria Redel, Dani Shapiro, and Darcey Steinke read in the Behind the Book Reading Series at KGB Bar.

WHO:
Darcey Steinke is the author of the new memoir, Easter Everywhere, and four novels, two of which were New York Times Notable Books of the Year.  Her novel Suicide Blonde has been translated into eight languages, and her novel Milk has been translated into four.  Her nonfiction has been featured in Vogue, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Village Voice, Spin, the Boston Review, and the New York Times Magazine.  Her Web project, Blindspot, was included in the Whitney Museum's 2000 Biennial.  She currently teaches at both Columbia University and New School University in New York City.  She lives with her daughter in Brooklyn.

Dani Shapiro is the author of five novels, including her latest, Black & White, and the best-selling memoir, Slow Motion.  Her short stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, Tin House, Elle, Bookforum, Oprah, Ploughshares, among others, and have been broadcast on National Public Radio.  Her books have been translated into seven languages.  She is a visiting writer at Wesleyan University and a contributing editor at Travel + Leisure.  She lives with her husband and young son in Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Victoria Redel is the author of two novels, the recently-published The Border of Truth and Loverboy, which Kevin Bacon made into a movie in 2005.  She is also the author of a story collection, Where the Road Bottoms Out, and two books of poems, Swoon and Already the World.  She has been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship.  She teaches at Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University and lives in Manhattan.

Behind the Book is a literacy nonprofit working with low-income students in NYC public schools.  Our mission is to excite children and young adults about reading.  Working in the 1st-12th grades, we bring authors and their books into individual classrooms to build literacy skills and a new generation of book readers.
