Behind the Book is a visiting author program designed to enrich the existing curriculum within the New York City public schools. We work with teachers to design individualized programs that fit the personality and needs of each classroom. The careful selection of an author for a particular class, and the careful preparation of the students for the author visit are the keys to our success and impact.
The teacher commits to including the book and author visit into their curriculum. Behind the Book and the teacher design a schedule that suits the needs of all involved. The students are required to read the book and a program is developed that includes preparing the students for the visit as well as a written assignment that is edited and sent to Behind the Book for publication on the website.
We will recruit interested students to become members of one of the two advisory boards. We will also invite teachers and faculty members to contribute to the website.
We look forward to developing a long-term relationship with all students and teachers with whom we work.
