The most impactful way to work with New York City public school students is to volunteer right in the classroom with Behind the Book. With each workshop lasting approximately 90 minutes, you can make meaningful connections with our students in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan. Your group will see the direct impact of their time immediately, in the excited smiles on the faces of the students. Volunteer sessions also provide a unique way for your employees to work together as a team.
Many volunteers ask what skills or preparation they need prior to joining one of our classes. No special skills are needed – in fact, the most important task is to engage and encourage students as they work. The Behind the Book Program Coordinator will provide you with an overview of the program and the details of what you’ll be doing.
Team volunteering sessions are best suited for between 10 – 15 volunteers per classroom.
Since 2009, Behind the Book has been organizing private readings to help corporations thank their employees for a successful year or to recruit great new prospects. Behind the Book matches your corporation with an author that complements your area of expertise or interest. The reading is tailored to fit your needs, and can include panel discussions and book signings. Events typically last sixty to ninety minutes, and many firms choose to offer the reading in their slower summer months.
If your company is interested in hosting a reading or volunteering with Behind the Book, please contact Kara Matthews at firstname.lastname@example.org, or (212) 222-3627.
