Behind the Book works directly in NYC public schools, providing enhanced literacy programs in urban classrooms. Working with students from pre-K to 12th grade, Behind the Book identifies books that speak to the students, and partners with teachers to create immersive curriculum units that bring the authors of those books into the classroom. Through a series of workshops, authors discuss their book and teach a genre of writing, encouraging students to see themselves as readers and writers. Behind the Book seeks a Social Media Intern to coordinate our various social media platforms. The position is ideal for a go-getter with a strategic mind and excellent communication skills, who wants to be an integral part of implementing BtB’s social media strategy. The position will be based at our Harlem office. The commitment is for one semester, a minimum of two days per week.

Social Media Intern responsibilities include:

  • Developing and posting social media content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms.
  • Updating BtB’s blog (wordpress) regularly with new content that features stories and pictures from our school programs and other news of interest from our organization;
  • Selecting and editing pictures, student work, and videos related to our programming for the blog, social media, and newsletter;

The successful candidate will be someone who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage tasks independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. Experience with social media sites required; experience with WordPress and Mail Chimp a plus. The intern will report to the Development Manager.
