During their unit on realistic fiction in November 2010, Ms. Ramirez’s second grade ELL class read Not Afraid of Dogs by Susanna Pitzer. Winner of several awards and countless rave reviews, the book is the story of how Daniel, the bravest boy of all, overcomes his fear of dogs. Ms. Pitzer led three workshops through which the students created illustrated stories about fears. Behind the Book compiled the class’ stories into a book that was published through Blurb.com.
