The programs provided by Behind the Book are only made possible by the amazing volunteers and staff of the organization. Our team is made up of many people with various roles, each necessary to fulfill our goal of bringing accomplished authors and their books into classrooms. One such member is Ian Woolley who today tells us why he became a part of the Behind the Book family.
Why did you choose to become a part of Behind the Book?
I am an avid reader, so was immediately a fan of their mission. I was also impressed by Jo’s commitment and passion when I met her. I wanted the opportunity to contribute to the success of the organization by using the finance skills I have learned, as well as being a working board member.
What book inspired you to love reading as a child?
I used to enjoy the Famous Five books by Enid Blyton.
What is your role on the Board?
I am the Treasurer. In this role, I work closely with Jo, Christy (our bookkeeper), and our Board President to manage the day to day financial health of Behind the Book, and update both our short-term and long-term financial plans.
What’s your favorite part about being involved with Behind the Book?
Working with the rest of the Board and knowing you are making a difference.
If you were to trade places with a book character for a day, who would it be and why?
James Bond on the days when nobody is trying to kill him. I’m a huge fan … I read all the Bond books when I was younger, and reread them all three or four years ago.
