On December 1, 2015, Eat Well and Support BtB Programs
We’re so excited to partner with local restaurants on #GivingTuesday, December 1, 2015, “the global day of giving” to raise funds to continue our immersive literacy programming in under-served public schools across NYC. With many of our programs in Harlem and Brooklyn, it makes perfect sense to engage neighborhood businesses to help us in our mission to instill a love of reading in every child.
Settepani in Harlem, Cow & Clover in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Chavela’s in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and blujeen in Harlem will each donate a percentage of their sales on December 1st to Behind the Book. Each restaurant has a different flavor for the differing tastes of all of our supporters residing in New York City. The one thing they all have in common is their commitment to giving back to their communities.
“We are a part of Harlem and embrace partnerships that will help the neighborhood grow and thrive. Loving literature is so important for a bright future and the way in which BtB is going about inspiring our Harlem kids to do so is very unique.”
—Ana Komnenovic, Manager of Settepani
On this day of community, we invite you to support the local businesses in our BtB communities of Harlem and Brooklyn.

Restaurant Partners in Harlem
blujeen is an American restaurant and wine bar delivering inspired comfort cuisine. blujeen’s cuisine and dining room are inspired by the generations of home cooks, “the ladies” who understood the importance of maintaining tradition while growing from your roots. They blend soul, southern, and classic American cuisine. blujeen is a sleek, elegant yet casual, neighborhood restaurant. Enjoy hand picked wines from a mostly American list, craft brews, ciders, and specialty cocktails.
blujeen has agreed to generously donate 15% of sales on #GivingTuesday to Behind the Book!
Settepani Harlem, established in 2000, is an Italian/Mediterranean dining restaurant that has pioneered the Harlem Food Renaissance. They are committed to serving the community with the quality and comfort that Harlem has grown to trust.

Since 2003, Behind the Book has served over 10,000 students in NYC public schools, but we have 15 schools currently on our waiting list. There is a need for more immersive literacy programming in our schools, and we hope that our community can help us fill it.
Dine at one of our community partners this #GivingTuesday, December 1, and help us raise $5,000, the amount for one BtB classroom program!
