On June 7, 2010, author Colson Whitehead visited the law offices of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP to read from his latest novel, Sag Harbor, which hilariously narrates the coming-of-age non-adventures of a crew of teenage friends who while away their summers in the Hamptons getaway. Sullivan & Cromwell distributed about one hundred books to its summer associates and other attendees of the event, during which the distinguished author read from Sag Harbor, answered questions from the audience and signed books during a wine reception.

The event was coordinated by Laura Cappiello, Senior Manager of Recruiting at S&C, who spearheaded the July 2009 summer reading also hosted by the firm with Joshua Ferris, at which Ferris read from his National Book Award nominated novel Then We Came to the End. The law firm reading event Behind the Book has established, supported by S&C for two years in a row, is not only unique and culturally attuned, but also exposes incoming and current associates to some of the more renowned literary figures in New York while investing in beleaguered arts and literacy programs in local public schools.
