ESCAPE TO THE ISLANDS: A SUMMER ROOFTOP EVENT
A Networking Event to benefit Behind the Book

Over 120 young professionals from a variety of sectors turned out for Behind the Book's after-work networking event on June 15th, 2009. The event was held at Mad 46, a rooftop bar on top of the Roosevelt Hotel. The event featured a Live DJ spinning top 40 hits and other party favorites, drink specials, giveaways, and amazing raffle prizes.

Seven lucky guests won a gift certificate to the vintage antique store Bloodline, tickets to the off-Broadway sensation Fuerza Bruta, tickets to Symphony Space's "Bloomsday on Broadway", a Refirm and Peel treatment from Skin TheraP Medical Spa, 10 Core Fusion or Yoga Classes at Exhale Spa, and gift certificates to St. Mark's Bookshop and Candle 79.

All proceeds are going towards Behind the Book's programs this year, providing curriculum-integrated literacy programs to students in NYC public schools.

The mission of Behind the Book is to excite children and young adults about reading. Working with low-income students in New York City’s K-12 public schools, Behind the Book brings authors and their books into individual classrooms to build literacy skills and nurture a new generation of book readers.
