PUBLICITY INTERNS NEEDED
Publicity Internship at Behind the Book:
Behind the Book, a school based literacy nonprofit working with low-income students in New York City public schools, is seeking campus publicity interns for our Spoken Word fundraiser.
The Behind the Book Spoken Word fundraiser will be held on Friday, February 12th, 2010 at Bowery Poetry Club, which has hosted incredible artists and poets such as Emanuel Xavier, Amiri Baraka, and Sapphire.
The event will be specifically geared towards college students and young professionals. Proceeds from the night will fund Behind the Book’s workshops in NYC public schools.
As a publicity intern, you will be essential in supporting a growing organization, and will gain valuable skills and experience in public relations and nonprofit event planning. You will be part of a “street team” of point-people who will be advertising the event on their respective campuses. The internship will begin in mid-January (info session date TBA), and responsibilities will include posting information about the event in various campus outlets - bulletin boards, email listservs, Facebook groups, etc. as well as publicizing the event in person at campus events. A publicity intern must also commit to attending the event and bringing at least 5 guests. Writing and working on media publicity is possible as an additional responsibility, depending on interest and qualifications. The positions are unpaid, but college credit may be arranged. You will have the chance to be a part of an exciting new project, meet other dynamic people, and contribute to a worthy cause.
We are looking for students who are motivated by Behind the Book’s mission. Students should be active members of campus life and familiar with the methods and venues for advertising events on their campuses. Experience planning and advertising college events is strongly preferred. The successful candidates will be people who are outgoing, self-directed, and creative.
