THE BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL

From L to R: Alanna Cavaricci (volunteer), Francesca Dipietro (volunteer), and Micaela Gutierrez (staff member)

On Sunday, September 13th, 2009, Behind the Book participated in the 4th Annual Brooklyn Book Festival, a multuicultural event that brings together authors, book lovers, book stores, literary organizations, and publishers for a series of literary discussions, readings, and author signings. Our volunteers, staff, and board members joined thousands of vendors and visitors in Downtown Brooklyn to raise awareness about our programs and the students we serve.

Behind the Book also presented a cartooning workshop with teaching artist, playwright, and comic book illustrator, Alex Simmons. At the event, Simmons taught young children how to create comic strips and draw cartoon characters.
