Elizabeth Royte, Garbage Land: On the Secret Trail of Trash: October 22, 2009.
Elizabeth Royte is the author of Garbage Land: On the Secret Trail of Trash, in which she traces the path of her yogurt cups, beer bottles, personal computer, and organic-fig-cookie packaging to their final resting places. Part journalistic expose and part science exploration, the book exposes the over-consumption in America and challenges readers to do something about it. Students sought advice from Royte about how to reform the school's recycling system. Royte said of her visit to Clinton:
"Thanks for including me in this terrific program. [The students] were energetic in their questioning, and they seemed determined to come up with an action plan to address their concerns (in this case, concerns with school waste). I hope they follow up with some of the things we talked about (and don't get expelled in the process!)."
